So only a few days left before I head back home. As close as mexico is to my heart, I gotta get outta here. I am like a flower, I need water to flourish. If only I had taken my husbands advice and stayed in the hotel........I am trying to figure out how to wean G off of sugar, because she just isn´t going to get it at home.

Last night a very strange thing happened, in the middle of the night, Goldie was screaming hysterically and I couldn´t figure out why. This went on for awhile and then I discovered what it was. She was cold. She has never been cold before. She mustve freaked out. I got her some warmer clothes and all was well, but it really made me think about how good we have it.

While I am looking forward to getting home tuesday night, I am not looking forward to the flight home. Goldie doesnt exactly dig being held (especially by me) for long periods of time. I am trying to figure out how to bribe airline staff to give me any extra seats that may be available so that I wont be the lady with the screaming baby.

Ok people, I am not trying to be a pussy but, in the last 6 months I think I have become a middle class freak because I am having big major issues here in Mexico. Most of you probably think I am staying at some resort on the beach when I say mexico, but I assure you I am not. I am in a big city living with real mexicans who have really hard lives.

For starters, there is no water most of the time. You do not realize how much you need water until you do not have it. The water comes once a day for about an hour in which you must fill all buckets available to use for bathing, toilet flushing, laundry etc. Some days the water just doesn{t come at all.

There is dust. And soot in the air. I have black boogers. I haven{t showered in three days (which is really not a shower, but throwing buckets of water over yourself.)

Goldie however, is having the time of her little life

When in Rome

Greetings from Oaxaca!
Goldie is just about at 6 months now and I am still breastfeeding, using formula once a day or so and now she really wants food. The thing is, the locals do things a little different. It is like a feeding frenzy In the past three days she has had 2 types of tea, with honey, hot chocolate, broth, carrots, banana, apple, green beans, potato, (all with salt or sugar) and I am sure other things when I am not looking (I caught them letting her suck on a big piece of steak the other day!). Is all this food ok? People are a little pushy about how to do things with babies and I just want to make sure that I don´t have to put my foot down.

They also have some interesting cures for low milk supply. They are making me drink about 4 cups of a drink made of either ground sesame seeds or corn (Atole it is called) and also the broth of rice with almonds (horchata). It sounds crazy, but it is really working. I am really seeing an increase. Good thing because Goldie seems to be starving all the time!

Life without the swing

Greetings from Sunny Oaxaca! 80 degrees and sunny, wonderful food and friends.....so far so good. Davey heads home tommorow and leaves me and Goldita (who is really the hit of the party) to fend for ourselves for a few more weeks. So many tales to tell, but they will have to wait......I have to actually hold the baby while I blog

Oaxaca or Bust

Ok Kiddos.....bags are packed, legs are shaved (well...sort of, it is hard to reach all of your parts when you are sitting in a inner tube made of fat) So, I was told to try Benedryl on the plane to keep Goldita calm. I was also told to give her a tester dose to see how she delt. To say that she dealt not well would be the understatment of the year. She spat, screamed and pounded little drooly fists of fury into my chest. Her head spun around. Her eyes glowed red. You get the picture. No Benedryl for baby tommorow.

I will be able to post in Mexico so look for sporadic updates. My love to all and will be back next month! Next stop Mexico!

So long suckers!

Wow, what a freaking busy month it was and this one is shaping up to be even busier. Did I mention that I am going to spend this month in Oaxaca, Mexico? I didn't? Oh pish, I swore I did. Alas, yes, it is true. You see I spent a good amount of the first half of my twenties in Oaxaca. I moved there to finish grad school and then, can you say "hang out" for another year or so.

I worked in a street cafe, had torrid affairs and generally screwed off. Mexico has been very kind and generous to me, leaving me bilingual and competent with a tortilla. This trip was prompted by my desire to show off my offspring to the natives and make all of the people here say " My GAWD, you can't bring your precious baby to a (gasp) third world country!!!" Last time I checked people had babies in Mexico too, and some are even surviving. Actually, I have a dear friend who has to have a mastectomy and I thought I would go hang out with her and cheer her up before the surgery. (Te quiero much amiguita Enoe!)

So long suckers! We have a baby passport, a sun hat and a long strip of cloth to make a sling out of.
